Myofascial Release Therapy in Herne Hill
Restore Movement. Reduce Pain. Feel more at ease in your body
What is Myofascial Release?
Myofascial Release is a gentle, hands-on therapy that works with the body’s fascial system - the connective tissue that surrounds and supports muscles, joints and other structures throughout the body.
Restrictions within the fascia can contribute to pain, stiffness and reduced movement. Using sustained, gentle pressure and long-held stretches, Myofascial Release aims to ease these restrictions, improve mobility and help your body move more freely.
How Can Myofascial Release Help?
Myofascial Release can be helpful when pain, stiffness or restricted movement is linked to tension within the fascial system.
Rather than focusing only on the area where you feel discomfort, treatment considers how restrictions elsewhere in the body may be contributing to the problem.
It may help with:
Neck and shoulder tension
Lower back and hip discomfort
Restricted movement and stiffness
Headaches and tension
Sciatica-type symptoms
Persistent muscular aches and tightness
What Happens During a Myofascial Release Session?
Your session begins with a discussion about how you are feeling and any areas of pain, stiffness or restricted movement.
Treatment uses gentle, sustained pressure and slow, long-held stretches. Rather than forcing tissues, we allow time for the fascia to respond and release naturally.
Because restrictions in one area can influence movement elsewhere, treatment may involve areas away from where you initially feel your symptoms.
Why Choose Myofascial Release?
Myofascial Release takes a whole-body approach rather than simply treating the area where symptoms are felt.
By working gentle with restrictions within the fascial system, treatment aims to improve movement, reduce tension and help the body regain a greater sense of balance and ease.
Each session is tailored to you, taking into account your movement, symptoms and how different areas of your body may be influencing each other.
Is Myofascial Release Right For You?
Myofascial Release may be suitable if you are experiencing persistent pain, stiffness or restricted movement, particularly when symptoms keep returning or haven’t responded fully to other approaches.
It can also be helpful if you feel tension in several areas of your body, or if you are looking for a gentler, whole-body approach to treatment.
You don’t need to know whether fascia is contributing to your symptoms before. We can discuss what you’re experiencing and assess how your body is moving to determine the most appropriate approach for you.
My Approach to Treatment
I take a whole-body approach to treatment, combining hands-on therapy with movement assessment to understand what may be contributing to your symptoms.
Rather than simply working on the area that hurts, I look at how different areas of the body may be influencing one another. Treatment is tailored to you, with the aim of improving movement, reducing restrictions and creating longer-lasting changes.
My approach may also incorporate techniques from Deep Tissue Massage and CranioSacral Therapy where appropriate, depending on your individual needs.

Myofascial Release is generally a gentle treatment. I use slow, sustained pressure and stretching rather than forcing the tissues. You may feel areas of tension or restriction during treatment, but I work within a comfortable level and adjust the pressure according to how your body responds.

This varies from person to person and depends on factors such as how long you have had your symptoms, previous injuries and how your body responds to treatment. Some people notice changes after their first session, while longer-standing problems may benefit from a course of treatments.
-
You will be given privacy to prepare for your treatment and appropriate draping will be used throughout the session. I will explain what is needed before treatment begins so that you feel comfortable throughout your appointment.
-
Myofascial Release may help with persistent muscular aches, stiffness, restricted movement, postural tension and reduced mobility. It can also be used as part of treatment for sports or repetitive strain injuries and areas such as the neck, shoulders, lower back and hips.

No. Myofascial Release isn’t only for injuries. It can also be suitable if you are experiencing ongoing stiffness, muscular tension or restricted movement, or simply feel that your body is not moving as freely or comfortably as it should.
